‘We need wins’ says Stone as Robins slip to another heavy defeat

Robins boss, Brady Stone said his side have got to start picking up wins after they capitulated against fellow strugglers Walsham, on Saturday.
Ely matched their opponents for the opening 30 minutes but a goal just after the half-hour mark saw heads go down, and the hosts ran in a further two goals before the end of the half, all but ending any hopes of a comeback.
Two further goals after the break consigned Ely to a third straight defeat, a run that has seen then concede 19 goals and score none.
Ely welcome Kirkley and Pakefield to the Unwin Ground this weekend and boss Stone said his side have got to start learning from their mistakes if they want to pick up wins.
He said: “The players need to understand that, when you go a goal down, it is important to shut-up shop and keep the other side from scoring again because, at 1-0 down, you are still in it.
“If you allow your head to drop, it can go to 2-0 or 3-0 very quickly and by then you are out of the game. We have to learn from these mistakes because we need to start winning.”
Ely will be without the injured Richard Gammon for Saturday’s match but Stone says his side know what to expect from the visitors, who they have already faced twice this season – losing both contests 3-0.
He said: “We have got plans in place for Kirkley. We know how good they are going forward but we believe that we can test them at the back if we take our chances.
“We have not created enough in the last few games but if we can stop them playing, and get the ball down and play, we are confident we can hurt them.”
Saturday’s kick-off at the Unwin Ground is at 3pm.
