CUP MATCHES

THERE was cup joy for Triple-S and LTFC 1906 on Sunday, as both teams progressed to the latter stages of their respective cup competitions.

Triple-S reached the last four of the VB Trophies League Cup, overcoming a dreadful display to go through at the expense of hosts Johnson Matthey XPO.

They trailed 2-0 at the break and failed to raise their game, but Wayne Bell managed to score on the hour and Lee Moll crashed home the equaliser after an 80th minute

corner had been flicked on at the near post.

Bell turned neatly to score the 3-2 winner with two minutes remaining, but fine performances from Jonathan Cowling and goalkeeper Gavin Wiseman had kept them in it.

LTFC were also in poor form, but did enough to see off XMVC Dolphin at the semi-final stage of the Shelford Energy Cup.

Nathan Bennett's headed opener was followed by a goal from Jordan Lenhan, and Lee Peacock made the final score 3-1 after the visitors had pulled a goal back.

LEAGUE MATCHES

ONLY two league matches of local interest took place on Sunday, with Ely Park Rangers Reserves (2A) and Wilburton Albion (4A) both strengthening their positions at the top of the table with convincing wins.

Peter Munns led the way for Rangers with a four-goal haul as his side crushed Exning United Reserves 9-0 away from home.

Other goals went to James Angier, Richie Murfitt, Jamie Alsop, Gary Dewsbury and goalkeeper Lee Follen, who scored from the penalty spot.

Wilburton meanwhile kept their 100 per cent league record intact by wining 4-1 against Lakenheath Eagles.

Will Ludbrooke scored a hat-trick and a Mel Pryer penalty and Shane Freeland's 25-yarder wrapped up the win.
