Soham Town Rangers 1-0 Harlow Town: Jordan Gent grabs a late winner as the Greens upset the odds

A last-gasp winner from Jordan Gent fired Soham Town Rangers to an unlikely 1-0 victory over high-flying Harlow Town last night.
Third-placed Harlow travelled to Julius Martin Lane on the hunt for their 15th Ryman Division One North League game unbeaten, but came up against a resolute Soham side who defied the odds to extend their own unbeaten run to four matches.
Soham began the clash brightly, forcing David Hughes in the Harlow goal into a number of fine saves.
The hosts continued to dominate, with Luke Chadwick coming close to opening his Rangers account, only to be stopped again by Hughes.
Salim Relizani had a venemous strike palmed away, and Ryan Sharman’s goal-bound header was denied by the Harlow stopper.
Soham almost broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when the in-form Relizani let fly from 25 yards, only for his effort to be tipped over the bar.
The Greens carried their dominance over into the second period, with Sharman spurning a host of opportunities.
George Lawton remained relatively untested in the Greens’ goal, with Soham’s midfield of Jack Watson, Callum Russell, George Darling and Luke Chadwick controlling the tempo of the game.
Chances were at a premium in the last quarter of the encounter, and with time running out, it seemed that Soham were set to gain an impressive point.
However, a 93rd-minute corner was swung into the Harlow penalty area by Relizani, and Gent steamed into the box to nod in and send the Julius Martin Lane faithful into raptures.
Gent’s second goal of the season sealed an excellent, determined performance from Robbie Nightingale and Dave Theobald’s men, who will be hoping to add a fifth game unbeaten when they face another top-four opponent in the form of AFC Hornchurch on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
