A CONTROVERSIAL goal settled this match as Soham failed to score in their second successive league game.
Dwayne Edwards' second-half strike, that looked to be well offside, was the only clear-cut chance that the hosts created while Soham were made to rue a number of missed opportunities.
Matt Robinson returned to the Rangers midfield after a 10-month lay-off and 18-year-old Sean Greygooose, son of former Soham stopper Dean, made his debut in the Rangers goal.
Charles Libam missed two early chances and then set up Andy Furnell who forced a stunning save after 30 minutes.
Keke St Hilaire was replaced by Scott Carter five minutes before the break when the winger was smashed in the face by a flailing elbow.
Robinson was denied on the stroke of half-time when his effort from the edge of the box was well tipped over.
Edwards tapped home two minutes after the re-start following a cross from the right to the dismay of the Soham backline, with the striker looking a clear two yards off-side.
Soham continued to press with Robinson, Bell and Libam all looking dangerous and the African striker looked to have equalised in the 60th minute, but his header into the top corner, after Robinson's free-kick, was disallowed for off-side.
Aaron Turner had a golden chance to equalise in the closing stages but miscued his shot after an awkward bounce.
Soham boss Ian Benjamin said: "The officiating was embarrassing at times and we were very unlucky. There were a lot of positives to take from the game; Matt Robinson played very well and Sean Greygoose made a good account of himself on his debut. We looked solid and restricted them to just one chance and I'm sure the forwards will start scoring again soon."
n Soham play Wroxham at home in the league on Saturday.
