LITTLEPORT man Scott Mitchell has signed for Livingston FC, and is now part of the starting 11.

Mitchell, 20, joined the Scottish Football League Division One team after a long spell with Ipswich Town Football Club in which he progressed through the youth system to eventually become captain of the reserve team.

Mitchell left the club in June after impressing scouts from Livingston, and moved up to Scotland shortly after.

The move could mean the defender will have the chance to play Scottish Premier League football within the next few years, as Livingston are hotly- tipped to gain promotion to the SPL this season.

In the run-up to the start of the Scottish season, Mitchell has featured regularly in the starting line-up for Livingston against the likes of Norwich City and SPL side Hearts. Mitchell has also been on the score-sheet during a recent friendly in which Livingston beat Elgin City 6-1.

The defender also commented favourably on the standard of Scottish football: "After five games, from what I've experienced, the pace is actually quicker up here."

The move north of the border was a daunting one for Mitchell, as it means he is away from his family and friends for extended periods of the year, but says he has settled in well with his team-mates: "I'm getting on very well with the lads. Obviously it was very difficult moving so far away from home, but they've made me very welcome here and they're all top quality lads."

He also added that some parts of Scottish culture are harder to become accustomed to than others: "I must admit that I haven't quite got used to the haggis yet but there's still time I suppose."

Mitchell hopes to stay in the first team at Livingston, and to be part of a successful promotion campaign this season.
