FATHER Christmas took time out of his hectic schedule to visit the Ely Standard six-a-side league last Sunday and present Player of the Month trophies.

The trophies were awarded to Richard Maycroft and Dave Pearce after some outstanding performances.

The winners were chosen by the league's manager Ian Clarke.

He said: "I think Richard and Dave have been everyone's player of the month, they have been absolutely outstanding and Richard also just missed out on the top goalscorer trophy."

Maycroft has now been selected and Pearce is through to the last 16 for trials for the Soccersixes' elite squad that will participate in the FA National Small Sided Cup. There will be around 2,000 six-a-side teams taking part in the competition and the final will take at the new Wembley Stadium in May next year.

* Teams wishing to enter the FA National Small Sided Cup must be a part of a Soccersixes' league, and there are still places for two teams in the Ely Standard six-a-side league. The league takes place at Ely Hockey Club's Astroturf pitch on Sunday evenings and all new teams receive free kits.
