Brady Stone says his Ely City side won't be "sitting back" when they visit league leaders Norwich United, on Saturday.

The youthful Robins are on a high after two wins in their last two league games and Stone insists they will show no fear at Norwich, despite their opponents being eight points clear at the top of the table after just 13 games played.

He said: “Norwich are flying to be fair but we’ve got nothing to lose. We are going to play our own game and we are going to go for the win. There is no point in sitting back and letting them dictate the game.”

The Robins were bolstered this week by the arrival of central midfielder Lee Townshend and winger Rafael Castenheira, with Stone hopeful that the youthful duo will create competition in the team’s ranks.

Stone said: “We’ve also got Dave Smith coming back after a year out with injury so it’s great news for him and for the club because it means we get stronger and we can also strengthen our reserves side.”

Townshend joins Ely from Great Shelford while Portuguese teenager Castenheira is new to the English game.

Ely also announced this week that director of football Sam Turner had left the club with immediate effect. Turner was appointed in the summer on an interim basis with a view to overseeing the affairs of the first and reserve teams.

It is understood that a replacement will not be sought in the short term.
