After a lacklustre March that included four losses and two draws, the Robins have managed to turn their fortunes around in April, with their dazzling display against Brantham their third win in just one week.
May 2010 was the last time the Robins managed to score three victories in succession and the Robins would have been hoping to have gone one better when they travelled to Stanway Rovers on Wednesday night.
Their win against Brantham moved Alsop’s men up into 15th place in the Ridgeons Premier League, with just five games remaining this season.
Striker Richard Chadwick opened the scoring just shy of the half-hour mark for Ely on Saturday and it wasn’t long before Ely had doubled their lead as Nick Impey finished off a sweeping move 10 minutes later.
The Robins all but secured the points a minute shy of half-time as youngster Josh Bridgeman continued his impressive start to life at Ely with a well-taken goal.
Brantham redoubled their efforts for the start of the second half and had Ely under pressure until Andy Pettit struck less than 10 minutes in to put Ely back in contorl. The Robins remained in control for the remainder of the match despite a late consolation for the visitors, with just eight minutes left.
On Wednesday evening, the Robins travelled to Cambridge to take on CRC and came away with a narrow 1-0 courtesy of a late goal from Bridgeman, who popped up two minutes from time to steal the win for the Robins.
