ELY City need a win from the last game of the season to guarantee promotion, and manager Dennis Lightning has vowed to do a rain dance before the match.

The Robins were looking to secure a passage to the Ridgeons Premier Division in front of their home fans, but mid-table Hadleigh spoiled the party, winning 3-1.

The match saw Ely right-back Dean Blackman score a 25-yard screamer and then get sent off for smashing his elbow into an opponent's face.

Lightning said: "A few players let themselves down, but this result has been coming because, despite winning the last four games, we've not played well.

"The pitch didn't help; we like to get the ball down and play and we are suited to softer grounds, so I will personally be doing a rain dance before Saturday's match."

Walsham-le-Willows have won the First Division title and Ely are second, one point ahead of Haverhill and Swaffham.

City face fourth-bottom Long Melford away on Saturday, Haverhill are at home to bottom club March Town United and Swaffham visit eighth-placed Whitton United.
