M AND E FREEMAN JUNIOR CUP FINAL

ELY Park Rangers Reserves lifted the trophy after a thrilling extra-time win over much-fancied Stapleford.

A handling error from goalkeeper Leigh Follen presented Stapleford with an early breakthrough, but Matt Brodie levelled from the penalty spot after Steve Pollard had been sandwiched in the box.

Rangers fell behind again, but Richie Murfitt equalised from Simon Farrow's pass with 20 minutes of normal time remaining.

Goals from Pollard and Richard Dewsbury wrapped up a 4-2 victory in extra-time, but it was the performances of Gareth Arter and Gary Dewsbury which caught the eye.

LEAGUE MATCHES

ELY Park Rangers were crowned Division 1A champions after coming from behind to beat Kingston Foresters Reserves by the odd goal in five - but they were lucky.

Stephen Tuck nodded home to make it 1-1 in the second half, and an own goal put Ely in front before Lee Abbs struck the winner.

QPR Ely lost 2-0 at home to Bottisham Sunday in Division 2A, and Little Downham United also failed on home soil, going down 3-2 against Five Bells Cherry Hinton.

LTFC 1906 thrashed Fox Burwell 7-1 in Division 4A, but Wicken Maids Head were beaten 3-1 at home by Lakenheath Eagles despite a consolation goal from Ed Richardson.
