Port go down in cup final shoot-out

LITTLEPORT Town lost their final pre-season game in the cruelest of fashions as they went down on penalties to Chatteris.
Despite earning an impressive 1-0 lead courtesy of a David Cornwell effort, a depleted Port team were undone by ex-Ely City man Tony Brown, who equalised to send the match to penalties, where Port were ultimately undone.
The unfortunate Port player in the penalty shoot-out was Leigh Follen who missed the fifth and decisive Littleport penalty, but the result was largely irrelevant due to the players on show. Boss Dave Cullum said he could still take a lot from the match, however, as his side begin their assault on all fronts again on August 16 at home to Lakenheath in the Kershaw Premier League.
Town had earned the right to contest the final after a quarter-final victory at Wimblington where they cruised through 3-0, after which they swept aside local rivals and Senior A outfit Soham Town, 4-0 at home. Last season’s leading goalscorer and teenage sensation, Jon Bartlett was on the scoresheet again, as well as Daren Pryke with a brace and Chris Lupson completed the scoring with all the goals coming in the first half.
