NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Brady Stone sets sights on hitting a half-century at Ely City

Brady Stone has set his Ely City players a challenge to break the 50-point barrier after they notched another impressive point last night.
The Robins came from behind on three occasions to snatch a 3-3 draw at high-flying Kirkley & Pakefield – a result which extended Ely’s unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions.
Nathan Littlefair, Kelvin Enaro and Alex Theobald found the net in a hugely entertaining second half in Lowestoft and boss Stone admitted that he was pleased with a point.
“It was a crazy game,” he said.
“I think a draw was the right result. I think it would have been harsh on them if we’d have nicked it and vice versa.
“I don’t think either side deserved to lose the game and it’s a good point for us, especially going there with 12 players.”
The Robins are now 10 points clear of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division drop zone, and Stone has now set his sights on his men bagging a half-century of points for the season.
“We’re still looking over our shoulders because it’s very tight at the bottom but we’re 10 points clear of the first relegation spot now,” he said.
“We had a chat with the boys the other day and we’ve set a target of 50-plus points, which I think we can manage.”
And few will argue with Stone’s target given their recent form, which has seen them triumph in three of their last five league matches.
“When we were playing in the FA Vase we were in the relegation zone and getting knocked out could have affected our league performances,” said Stone.
“But full credit must go to the boys; they’ve responded and I can’t ask for more from them.
“We’ve only been beaten once in our last eight games and although we’re not guaranteed safety, if we keep winning games we will finish in mid-table,” Stone said.
“Considering our slow start and being in the relegation zone, that would be a fantastic achievement alongside our Vase run and getting to the final of the Invitation Cup.”
Ely entertain Hadleigh United on Saturday (3pm).
