LOCAL football round up

LITTLEPORT Town's alarming late season slump continued to the last as they went down 5-1 at West Wratting in their final league game on Thursday.

Neil Cullum was the lone scorer for Town as they ended a season where they unluckily lost in the Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup and were still in contention for the League with two months to go but ended up in a disappointing 10th position.

HADDENHAM Rovers could not achieve the impossible 12-goal victory that they needed to avoid relegation on Wednesday night as they went down 3-0 at Outwell Swifts.

Rovers found themselves three down at half-time before they recovered in the second half to give a much better performance for their manager, Andy Markwell. Twenty-nine-goal scoring phenomenon Will Ludbrooke thought he had notched yet again to give Rovers some consolation but it was unfortunately disallowed. Markwell is hoping to bounce back straight away next season as Haddenham start a spell in Division 1B.

Division 3B

ELY Crusaders' brave assault on promotion for this season eventually ran aground last week but they still had to complete the formality of a game at home to third placed Bluntisham Rangers Reserves on Tuesday night. Wesley Reid notched for Crusaders, who eventually finished in fourth place, but Rangers replied with three efforts of their own to consolidate their own top three position.

Mepal Sports also ended their up and down season with a 2-1 loss at home to relegation-troubled Exning Athletic.

Exning struck first after 35 minutes against the run of play after Sports' Guy Habbin had squandered a brace of gilt-edged chances. Athletic made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half before Mepal equalised through a Darren Murfitt free kick. Murfitt failed to add to this though as he dragged his re-taken penalty kick wide leaving Mepal defeated.

Division 4B

HADDENHAM Rovers Reserves ended their season with a super result at home to runaway League winners Fenstanton Reserves as they gained a 1-1 draw. Richard Conway was the Rovers scorer as they finished a troubled season in a respectable 10th place.
