DIVISION 3B

FORDHAM Reserves and Mepal Sports shared four goals in an entertaining local derby.

Spike Murkin limped off for the hosts after a poor 20th minute challenge, but his side took the lead quarter-of-an-hour later from the penalty spot.

Clive Boucheron was fouled in the area, and Mark Hacking stepped up to put the hosts 1-0 in front at the break.

Nick Agombar had a great shot finger-tipped on to the bar by Mepal goalkeeper Duncan Turner with 15 minutes of the match remaining, but a skidding free-kick from Darren Murfitt put Mepal back on terms soon afterwards.

An almost identical free-kick from Grant Pearson put second-from-bottom put Fordham back in front, but with three minutes remaining substitute Lee Isabell beat his full-back and drilled a shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-2.

Fordham could have snatched at late victory, but Turner somehow managed to smother a diving header from Boucheron to keep his side on terms.

DIVISION 2B

The Vine were unlucky to lose their mid-table match at Needingworth United Reserves by the odd goal in seven.

They trailed 2-0 early on, but goals from Mark Higginbottom, Dan Cowley and Jon Cutter put the visitors a goal ahead.

Cowley's looping 30-yard volley was the best goal of the game, but it was not enough to salvage a point because Needingworth hit back with two more before the final whistle to run out 4-3 winners.

DIVISION 4B

Burwell Swifts kept their promotion hopes alive with a late point-saver against visiting Outwell Swifts Reserves.

They conceded a goal after just five minutes, but got back on terms at the start of the second period when Mike Edwards slotted home a corner from Alan Nash.

A goalkeeping error handed Outwell their second goal of the afternoon, but with time running out Carl Saxby was upended in a scoring position and Kev Driver courageously drove home the penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw.

The match between The Vine Reserves and Exning Athletic was abandoned after 33 minutes due to a serious injury, with the visitors leading 1-0 at the time.

SUNDAY LEAGUE

Fox Burwell narrowly took the Division 3A points at the expense of Newnham Rangers on Sunday, running out 2-1 winners.
