NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Soham Town Rangers off the bottom thanks to first success of the Bostik North Division season

Player/assistant boss Erkan Okay reckons Soham Town Rangers have turned a corner - after storming to a first Bostik North Division win of the season.
The Greens triumphed 3-1 at Felixstowe & Walton United last night (Tuesday) to climb off the bottom of the table.
Alfie Connor fired Rangers into an early lead which was cancelled out by their hosts midway through the first half.
But Joe Carden restored their advantage just before the hour and a late Sam Mulready strike sealed a long-awaited success.
Okay said: “There is no doubt that we deserved the win and it could have been even more emphatic to be honest. We played them off the park.
“It is a difficult place to go to face a team with lots of momentum after being promoted and with a big crowd behind them.
“It was a long trip as well and we made it with a depleted squad, but we played with real purpose and intent in a fantastic performance.
“Our league position doesn’t reflect the quality in our squad, but we have to do the business on the pitch and it’s great to get the three points.”
That success followed hot on the heels of a frustrating Saturday home defeat at the hands of Aveley when Soham didn’t get their rewards for another pleasing showing.
They did everything but find the net at Julius Martin Lane when running into an inspired visiting goalkeeper.
Okay added: “We absolute battered a team who have started well and spent a lot of money.
“It wouldn’t have been unjust if we had won the game 5-1. Unfortunately we came up against a goalkeeper in unbelievable form.
“We were very disappointed to come out of that game with nothing, but took plenty of heart from a fantastic performance and built on it on Tuesday.
“We had a good chat as a group after the disappointing start to the season and have really moved forward. We can be proud of both performances in the last few days.”
Full-back Harry Norman left Soham following the defeat to Aveley to join another Step 4 side, Ware.
Phil Turner has gone to Step 6 side Haverhill Borough on loan.
