FREEZING conditions and waterlogged pitches meant only a handful of games went ahead on Saturday - but Littleport Town's derby with Soham Town Rangers Reserves did beat the weather.

The Greens’ second string, 16th in the Kershaw Premier Division after a difficult start, claimed a 1-1 draw with Littleport - and they felt it could have been more.

Boss Andrew Lee was fuming that his side were not awarded two “stonewall” penalties, which could have wrapped up all three points.

Rangers started strongly at Julius Martin Lane but it was the visitors who took the lead when the impressive Jon Bartlett curled a free kick over the wall and into the top corner.

Littleport missed chances to extend their lead but Soham regained the initiative after the break.

Brett Fuller capitalised on good work from teenage trio Tyler Phillips, Matt Simpson and Jack Sessions to bag a well-deserved equaliser.

Port’s keeper Leigh Follen thwarted the hosts’ desperate efforts for a winner and a full-blooded derby finished 1-1.

Division 2B

• STRUGGLING Fordham’s disastrous run of form continued as they made it six defeats out of seven with a 4-1 loss at Isleham United.

Christopher Martin’s goal could not prevent another defeat for relegation-threatened Fordham, who sit second bottom.

• SUTTON United were never at the races as they were trounced 7-0 away at high-flying Bar Hill Sports and Social.

United now lie third-bottom, just above Fordham, after losing six of their last seven matches.

Division 3B

• NEWLY-SIGNED hotshot Stuart Seekings enjoyed a memorable debut as Little Downham Swifts pipped Stretham Hotspurs 2-1.

Swifts boss Tony Ure managed to tempt Seekings across from Littleport Town and the capture reaped instant rewards.

Seekings struck twice to put his team in control and, although Sam Cornwell’s goal gave Stretham late hope, the Swifts held on to power up to fifth in the league.

Division 4B

• MEPAL Sports Reserves shared six goals with Doddington United Reserves in a thriller at Mepal Recreation Ground.

Chris Lee bagged his third of the season, while Connor Dent and Luke Wilson were also on target for Sports.

The 3-3 draw was enough to haul Mepal three points clear of the relegation zone.

• HIGH-FLYING Soham United Reserves were inspired by a Jamie Palmer hat-trick as they beat Waterbeach Reserves 4-2.

Palmer’s ruthless finishing overshadowed regular goal-scoring chief Josef Depfeiffer, who took his tally to eight for the season with a solitary strike.

Soham now occupy second place but sit level on points with leaders Red Lodge, who have two games in hand.

Division 5C

• ELY Crusaders 100 per cent winning streak continued - but not in the way they would have wished.

Opponents St Ives Rangers Reserves failed to raise a side for the clash, handing Ely another three points.

The Crusaders, who have won all nine of their league games, sit second behind pace-setters Houghton & Wyton.
