RIDGEONS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
Mildenhall Town 3 Wroxham 2
MILDENHALL completed the most successful season in the club's history with a fine win over the side who just pipped them to the league title.
Town received their runners-up shield before the match. Their highest previous league finish had been fifth, last season.
Liam Harrold gave the hosts the lead with a well-taken penalty in the 25th minute after Matty Clements had been hauled down in the box.
Harrold then turned provider, 10 minutes before the interval, when he laid the ball off to Gareth Simpson who unleashed an unstoppable drive from 20 yards.
Ben Thompson missed a golden chance to pull one back for Wroxham moments later.
And things got worse for the visitors, who wrapped up the title the week before, when winger Andy Key was sent off for his second bookable offence after a foul on Ian Salt.
Craig Hammond made it 3-0 shortly after the re-start, by racing on to a fine Simpson pass and curling his shot around the Wroxham keeper.
Mildenhall skipper Andy Eady put the ball in his own net in the 70th minute to give the visitors hope and Thompson made it 3-2 moments later when he beat goalkeeper Ben Nower to a challenge and tapped into an empty net.
But Mildenhall finished strongly and became only the second club to beat Wroxham in the league this season.
Mildenhall boss Trevor Munns said: "It was a fantastic finish to an exceptional season. It means we finish the season with 97 points and the league was won with 94 last year. We were just pipped to the title by an exceptional Wroxham side.
