Ely City 1 Walsham-le-Willows 1

HAVING lost 3-2 at home to Wisbech Town the previous Tuesday, the Robins needed to stop the rot at home to Suffolk side Walsham-le-Willows.

They fell behind to a goal from Proctor, but equalised in the 42nd minute when a free-kick was headed back across the area and Lee Dixon found the net.

City got the upper hand after the break, but couldn't manage a second goal and it finished 1-1.

"We had enough chances at the end of the game to pinch it," said Ely boss Dennis Lightning. "But it was a good game and they (Walsham) are a useful side, and they are on a roll."

Lightning hopes that Dale Archer will be fit for Saturday's visit to Felixstowe because he is resigned to losing the services of Robbie Mason.

"Robbie is deciding between offers from Histon and Cambridge City, and whichever club he joins I wish him all the best," Lightning said.

The City boss was seemed poised to lose the services of Andy Pettit after Wisbech Town offered the striker what Lightning described as "crazy money" which Ely could not compete with, but Pettit has decided after all to stay with the Robins.

"There is no way I could match - or want to match - what they were offering him," said the Ely boss, "but I'm glad that he's staying.
