WITCHFORD were slow to get going and Panthers took a 2-0 lead after just five minutes before Jack Sheridan pulled one back near the end of the first quarter. Witchford's improvement continued into the second quarter and went in front, thanks to goals from Henry Green and Sheridan, although Panthers scored again to leave the teams level at half-time.
There were no goals in the third period but Witchford's never-say-die attitude was rewarded in the final quarter as goals from Toby Rowsell, Sheridan and Green left the final score 6-3.
Witchford: Henry Green, Jordan Emms, Jack Sheridan, Toby Rowsell, Luke Carraturo, Callum Norrie
Soham Utd B 1 Ely Crusaders 0
A DISAPPOINTING performance saw Ely succumb to their first loss of the season away at Soham.
Their failure to score, for the first time this season, and one defensive error in a game of little quality or excitement resulted in defeat by the solitary goal.
Ely dominated the opening period but failed to test the Soham keeper despite Alex Brown and Jay Spittles' supply of crosses into the Soham penalty area.
Nil all at the break was a good reflection of the match and the second half progressed in a similar vein until one missed tackle and a hesitation in the Ely defensive line saw Soham snatch the lead.
Spurred into more frantic action by going behind, Crusaders pushed hard for an equalizer but did not score.
Ely Crusaders: J Barrett, A Brown, J Butler, S Felton, E Frodsham, T Funnell, L Hook, E Jeckells, G Leech, S Scarborough, J Spittles
Witchford Colts A 2 Soham Town 1
A CLOSE fought game with chances by both teams but Witchford's Daniel Chapman took the lead after a few minutes. Some great football was played by both teams and Witchford's goalkeeper Nathan Parker worked hard to keep a clean sheet until Soham equalised just before half time. After the break, the high standard was maintained and Davie Thompson scored his first goal for Witchford, taking them into the lead. Witchford battled to ensure Soham didn't get the chance to catch up again and the game finished with a Witchford win.
Witchford: Charlie O'Connor, Daniel Chapman, Matthew Loades, Davie Thompson, Dan Scott, Nathan Parker, Harry Braybrooke and Jack Loveday.
Under-12 Division F
Isleham United 1 Comberton 3
ISLEHAM at home were lively from the start and took an early lead as Callum Wilkinson's cross was collected by Aidan O'Brien who was on target. Isleham played some neat football with good efforts on goal from James Van der Peer, Sean Ward and Thomas Wade. Despite having a good share of possession, the home team struggled to find the net again. Thomas Griffin, Hanif Osman, Liam Markwell and Ethan Coulson kept it tight at the back. Comberton came close to equalising from a corner, but a good stop from Isleham keeper Jamie Eavis kept the score at 1-0 at the break.
In the second half Comberton swiftly levelled the score and then added another to take the lead. Comberton snatched a third, making the final score 3-1.
Witchford 1 Cottenham 3
WITCHFORD failed to build on two previous victories with a disappointing defeat to Cottenham who took the lead in an even first half.
Sam Green gave Witchford a deserved equaliser but the team couldn't capitalise, some missed chances and defensive errors allowed Cottenham to take the win with two well taken goals. Witchford's Man of the Match was shared by Lewis Woolard and Tom Matcham
Under-15 Division C
Needlingworth 0 Ely City 3
ELY put in their best performance of the season in a crucial top of the table game. It was tight in the first half with both teams going in at half time without a goal. But Ely came out in fighting spirit and scored halfway through the second half thanks to Martyn Lindsay through a Craig Emson pass. Lindsay added a second from a ball over the top form Finn Morrell. Jake Nicholls made sure for Ely with a volley from a Jamie Smith cross. Nicholls was Ely's Man Of The Match.
Cherry Hinton Lions 1 Ely City 1
ELY won another point needed for their promotion challenge. Nick Kyndt put them in front with a 30 yard strike and it stayed 1-0 for the first half. In the second half Cherry Hinton added more pressure and got their goal from a free kick. Man Of The Match for Ely was Tom Stead.
Under-16 Division A
Soham Town Colts 2 St Ives Rangers Colts 1
THE game, at Wicken, started at a fast pace and Soham took the lead after 15 minutes after the St Ives keeper made a mistake. When Simon Murfitt played the ball into the box the St Ives keeper dropped the ball and Elliot Drewery tapped in for 1-0.
Late in the half another goal from a keeper error, this time Soham's Wills who dropped the ball for a St Ives forward to tap home to level the score.
At the break Soham made changes and went to a more attacking style, coming out with all guns blazing, but St Ives matched them for the opening 15 minutes. Soham gradually tired St Ives out with pushed forward Centre back Ryan Saban causing all sorts of problems for the St Ives defence. After several near misses from Saban and Kerridge, Town finally pushed ahead when Saban's long rang effort was parried out, Drewery netted from a tight angle to claim his second and the points. Ollie Kerridge was awarded Town's MOM for a battling performance up top.
Soham: Charlie Wills , Dan Morley, Simon Murfitt(c), Ryan Saban, Michal Rola, Liam Lewis, James Seymour, Ryan Collins, Dan Whitwell, Elliot Drewery, Ollie Kerridge, Josh Heaps, Josh Nunn, Liam Ruminski
