RIDGEONS FIRST DIVISION

Ely City 2 Gorleston 1

ELY'S first win in five games put them back into the mix - but joint-manager Steve Taylor says the Robins need more victories to stay in the promotion picture.

Goals from Richard Dewsbury and Andy Chatters were enough for Ely to secure the three points, despite Gorleston getting back into the game with a goal in the second half.

The match also marked the debut of left-back Rory Hutton, who arrived from Premier Division outfit Mildenhall Town on Thursday, with midfielder Baz Smith going the other way.

Hutton has represented the Republic of Ireland at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level and showed some class with a second half appearance off the bench.

Dewsbury put Ely ahead after 15 minutes, lashing home a drive from the edge of the box.

The Robins doubled their advantage after 27 minutes, Chatters lobbing the keeper from the edge of the area.

Gorleston got on the scoresheet in the second half, but Ely held out.

"It was good to get the win," said Taylor. "We played well enough to win the game.

"We've just got to carry on winning now. It's still a long shot but if we can string four or five wins together we'll see if we're good enough to go up."

Taylor revealed that striker Peter Munns was considering a seven-day approach from Mildenhall.

There are no injury concerns for Saturday's trip to Debenham, with Jamie Smith and Martin Westcott to return to the squad after being unavailable for the Gorleston match.
