Soham Town Rangers 1

SOHAM made it 15 games unbeaten after Michael Simpson got the only goal in this fixture.

Midfielder Simpson headed home from six yards after Paul Hill nodded the ball back across goal after 29 minutes to enable the Greens to take all three points, and record their sixth clean sheet in seven games.

Manager Ian Benjamin was particularly pleased with the way his side defended. "If we defend like we did on Saturday, we will give ourselves a good chance for the rest of the season," he said.

"In my own mind, I probably underdid King's Lynn a little bit - didn't really give them the credit they deserved. They were a young side but a very good one.

"We can't afford to be complacent but we're just trying to win as many games as we can. There's still some things we need to tighten up on - I wasn't happy with a couple of things at half-time and I had to tell the players what they needed to do to change them - but we were better in the second half."

Soham lie in seventh position in the league table with 51 points, well-placed to make an assault on the top six.

Saturday's trip to Norwich United will be the last time Rob Allis wears a Soham shirt. The midfielder moves to America next week.

Add to that Paul Hill's three-week suspension, which has already started, and Scott Johnson's seven-day ban next week, and Benjamin said a new face may be needed.

"I'll have to start looking around because of Rob leaving and the suspensions.

"Rob's attitude has been first-class and we'll miss him. I'll have to ask the chairman and see if there's any money available to bring in someone else."

Leiston 2 Mildenhall Town 1

MILDENHALL were hit by a sucker-punch 10 minutes from time as they fell to defeat at Leiston.

Despite dominating most of the match, 'Hall were beaten in a match they should have won.

New signing Stuart Jopling, who joined from Needham Market last week, missed two first half chances as the teams went in at half-time goalless.

The first blow to Mildenhall's hopes came a minute after the break when Leiston striker Stuart Roach was fouled in the box by 'Hall keeper Ben Nower. The penalty was duly converted.

The visitors got back into the game on 70 minutes, a handball allowing Paul Miles to put away the afternoon's second spot-kick.

But Leiston took all three points as they scored the winner on 80 minutes.

"It was very disappointing to lose like that, as in the first half we had so many chances," said 'Hall assistant manager Ricky Cornish.

"It was like the Alamo in the second half around their goal. But, if we play like that for the rest of the season, we'll win more games than we lose."

'Hall's squad was further boosted by the news this week that utility player Wayne Goddard has signed from Histon.
