RIDGEONS FIRST DIVISION

Ely City 1 Whitton United 4

SCHOOLBOY defending cost Ely as a poor second half saw the Robins crumble to defeat. The home side conceded three goals in 10 second half minutes after missing several glorious opportunities to go ahead themselves.

Martin Westcott and Robbie Mason were particularly profligate in front of goal during the first half, while Mason and Simon Warren spurned chances in the second period.

Whitton's hot streak started after 60 minutes and they are 3-0 up by the time Mason got on the scoresheet with a close range header.

Whitton added a fourth 10 minutes from time. Ely joint-manager Steve Taylor said: "We defended like schoolboys and we should have been four or five up by half-time.

"We've not got a striker in double figures yet and I think that's where our problem lies."

Ely travel to Thetford for a league game tomorrow night (Friday).
