Erkan Okay believes there are plenty of positive signs emerging for Soham Town Rangers ahead of their visit to sixth-placed Maldon & Tiptree.
The 15-placed Greens made it back-to-back wins against sides challenging for the Bostik League Division One North play-offs, with a 3-0 victory over seventh-placed Haringey Borough and Okay believes this run could be a turning point Soham’s season.
“We haven’t fully turned a corner yet, but the last two games have been massive for us,” he said.
“The players have given it their all, we couldn’t have asked for more from them, and they got their deserved rewards in six big points against two sides in around the promotion race.
“We asked some questions of the squad after the defeat at Bowers & Pitsea and since then they have responded really well.
“It is three games unbeaten for us now and we want to push on from this and build on the last two results and turn our season around.”
Craig Gillies’ strike just before half time and goals from Callum Russell and Joe Carden inside seven minutes of each hour after the hour mark were enough to see Soham record a fully-deserved three points against Haringey at Julius Martin Lane last Saturday.
Soham can extended their Bostik North unbeaten run to four matches at Maldon this weekend, with three points enough to see Rangers jump to 12th in the standings; depending on other results.
Oaky believes the Greens’ young squad is starting to build confidence and pick up momentum ahead of Saturday’s trip to Essex.
He said: “We have got one of the youngest sides in this division and a few of them had difficult seasons last year for various reasons.
“It is easy for heads to drop when you aren’t winning games, but the morale has always been high and we are now starting to see that confidence come back.
“Every goal, every clean sheet and every result can boost confidence for those lads and we have seen that over the last three games.
“We know Maldon will be a tough test, they are going to be in the mix come the end of the season but we have done it against Canvey Island and Haringey Borough, so will go there to compete and build on the last two results.”
