MILDENHALL advanced to the semi-finals of the Ridgeons League Cup with a comprehensive victory in Essex. 'Hall had effectively wrapped the match up by half-time, scoring four goals, as they showed their class against opponents from Division One.

"They were stronger in the second half but we still could have scored more."

Tiptree are currently top of their division and looking to play the Recreation Way club in league action next season. "They play good football," said Cornish. "They were good going forward - very quick - and they had some good youngsters.

"The pitch there was great too, as it has been over the last few years."

Gareth Simpson and Owen Paynter bagged a brace for 'Hall, while Neal Docking got the other goal. The match was also notable for the debuts of midfielder Marcus Sawyer and midfielder Fabian Ford, who came off the substitute's bench with 10 minutes to go.

Ford spent some time at Watford while Sawyer arrives from AFC Wimbledon. They will mainly feature in cup competitions to provide cover for 'Hall's raft of cup-tied players.

Mildenhall travel to Lowestoft for a league match on Saturday.
