SOHAM are scoring goals for fun at the moment - and they put Kirkley to the sword with a second-half blitz on Saturday.

Ian Benjamin's team are rampant, having scored 16 goals in their last three games, and chances are they will add to this impressive total when basement boys Clacton visit Julius Martin Lane on Saturday.

Clacton, who have not managed even a point all season, could not run into Benjamin's men at a worse time and one of their main concerns will surely be to keep the score in single figures.

Steve Bugg, who has now scored nine goals in the last four outings, notched another two on Saturday, to add to a brace from Andy Furnell and one each for Matt Robinson and Andy Coleman.

Furnell opened the scoring on 23 minutes, guiding home Aron Rutter's cross, ironically when Michael Simpson was off the field following a clash of heads.

Furnell got his second a minute after the break, latching onto a through-ball from Paul Hill, and Bugg got in on the act six minutes later, finishing off a Scott Johnson pass after a well-worked move.

On 58 minutes, Rutter was brought down in the box and Robinson coolly slotted home the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Bugg turned provider on 64 minutes, crossing for Coleman to shoot home from close range, and the scoring was rounded off three minutes later, Bugg converting from six yards after a cross from substitute Tom Benjamin.

"It was tough at times in the first half but in the second half we totally dominated," said manager Benjamin.

"The manner in which we scored our goals was exceptional. Of the six we scored, three were good team goals. Not many teams would have been able to live with us in the second half on Saturday."

While Soham have had difficulty competing with a heavy pitch on home turf this season, Benjamin was quick to point out how vital it was for his side to have a good surface to play on.

"The players had a nice pitch to play on and when they settled down, that showed," he said. "We've got players who can win matches all over the pitch and I've always had confidence in them."

Peter Hinde misses this Saturday's game through suspension while Bugg and Furnell are doubtful with hamstring niggles. Tom Benjamin should start up front.
