LITTLE Downham motorcycle racer, Stephanie "Flossy" Waddelow, has been selected from more than 1,000 world-wide applicants for trials in the esteemed Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Valencia.

On Monday and Tuesday, Waddelow, 14, who uses the race name "flossy" because of a childhood nickname, will be competing against an international field of about 200 competitors, who will all be vying for one of the 20 places up for grabs.

The top 20 will then go on for a final trial on Wednesday, and if Waddelow were to succeed, she would live and race in Valencia for part of the year with the Red Bull Academy, and be one step closer to fulfilling her dream of becoming a full-time professional motorcycle racer.

Waddelow, who started racing in 2003, is currently the only female racer in two motorcycle racing competitions. She is leading the Conti 50cc Championship and has recently moved on to the 72cc Jawa Championships, where she usually finishes in the top six.
