Ely 0 Ipswich E-S 1
DESPITE what skipper Julian Palmer described as their "best performance of the season", a late goal doomed Ely to defeat.
Play started at pace, with Ely being pressed by the structured Ipswich midfield.
Ely defended well, with Tommy Hugo and Stu Clarke pressing and closing down.
Ely's best chance of the first half came when a breakaway to Chris Roberts ended with Grant Gilmour having an open goal, but some desperate defending managed to keep out his shot.
Ipswich pressed hard and had a goal disallowed and numerous short corners which defenders Rains, Dodsworth and Kisby doggedly thwarted.
Ely created two clear chances in the second half but Roberts and Palmer were closed down by an excellent Ipswich keeper.
Five minutes from time, an Ipswich attacker adeptly dropped over a deflection at the far post.
