King’s Ely’s Netball starlets can hold their heads high after a superb performance in the U12 Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Netball Tournament.

The netball prodigies travelled to Uppingham over the weekend to take on teams from across the country, and fought their way into the semi-finals of the competition, where they met Repton’s prep school, Formarke Hall.

King’s Ely swept their opponents aside – winning 6-1 – to book a place in the final, where they fought back from 8-3 down to level at 8-8.

Ely came agonisingly close to being crowned champions after their ninth goal was disallowed before the final whistle was blown, but were force to settle for runners-up, meaning they have qualified for the National IAPS Netball Championships in Brighton.

Amanda Kippax, Head of Girls Games at King’s Ely Junior, was thrilled the young team’s achievement: “This is only the second time a team from King’s Ely has qualified for the finals and in doing so the girls were wonderful ambassadors for the school. I am so very proud of them.”
