MINI-SECTION: Ely Tigers made the short trip to Newmarket to play the hosts and Cambridge.
The under-7s produced a brave fightback against Newmarket but lost 4-3 with Callum Norrie and John Fitzgerald (2) their try scorers.
But they then hit back with a 3-1 win against Cambridge A, thanks to tries from Harvey Cross, Matthew Whitworth and James Everitt-Carr.
The tiring Tigers lost their last game 10-6 against Cambridge B despite tries from Norrie (2), Whitworth (2), John Fitzgerald and Matthew Melloy.
The under-9s suffered three defeats but showed promise in their final game.
After losing 35-0 to Cambridge A, and 15-0 to Cambridge B, Ely gave away a soft try against Newmarket. William Hurst scored on the blind side of a scrum, but Newmarket quickly restored their lead.
Ely's best move of the day followed with several players handling before Ashley Clark put Mark Parry in to level the scores.
They then took the lead when pressure forced a Newmarket fumble over their line and Charlie Moss and Parry both pounced on the ball. But Newmarket came back to score two more tries for a 20-15 win.
The under-10s produced some fine performances to earn two draws.
Ely were up against it from the start against Cambridge, but after some courageous defending the match became more even, finally finishing at one try each, with Oliver Bailey on the scoresheet.
Bailey then scored two more tries in a 10-10 draw with Newmarket.
