Stowmarket 12 Ely 26
ELY Tigers held off a Stowmarket fightback for a fine win.
The visitors were powerful up-front against a big Stowmarket pack and dominated the early exchanges, winning the majority of line-out and scrummage ball, and providing a good platform from which to launch the backs.
Tries from centres Ollie Watts and Liam Cooper put Ely 12-0 up and the lead was maintained by some great defensive work from Dominic Jones at full-back.
Ely came out for the second half with five changes to their team.
Stowmarket exposed some defensive weaknesses and ran in two tries to get back into the game.
But the Tigers recovered well, with Cooper scoring his second try, before Theo Ogier collected the ball after a powerful run from Adam Featherstone to give them some breathing space.
Jimmy Adams kicked two conversions and Cooper one.
