AFTER seeing off Somerset on Sunday, in a meeting not short of controversy, Mildenhall go head-to-head with long-time local rivals Rye House this weekend.

Sunday's eventful clash with the Somerset Rebels, which saw all of the Fen Tigers riders, except Kyle Legault, take a fall, means that Mildenhall go into these two meetings on the back of a 54-38 victory and will be looking to make it back-to-back home wins at the start of their Premier Trophy campaign.

The meeting with Somerset started badly, with Mario Jirout being excluded after a coming together on the first bend of the first race and Mark Thompson having a very nasty encounter with the safety fence in the second race.

The Fen Tigers found themselves four points behind after three races before things started to pick up. Jirout and Shaun Tacey scored a maximum 5-1 in heat six, which was soon followed by two successive 4-2s and then a 5-1 in heat nine courtesy of Legault and Smith, giving Mildenhall a 10-point lead.

Somerset tried to get back into the meeting by sending Kramer out on a tactical ride in heat 10 which he convincingly won from the tapes giving his side a 6-3-heat advantage.

Heat 13 was full of incidents with Zetterstrom, the current Premier League Riders Champion, being excluded after a pile-up on the first bend, which was quickly followed by Hawkins falling in the re-run resulting in a big 5-0 to the Fen Tigers.

As a final throw of the dice Somerset sent Zetterstrom out again in heat 14 as a tactical substitute, a decision that didn't have the effect that Somerset team manager Steve Bishop was hoping for. After a coming together with Jamie Smith, Zetterstrom was excluded as the cause of the stoppage. This exclusion lead to scenes of mayhem in the pits as Smith took exception to the hard riding of Zetterstrom and had to be held back until he cooled down.

In the re-run of heat 14, Smith and Jason King rode to a 5-1, leaving Frampton no room to pass.

A brilliant ride from Legault in heat 15 saw the final heat tied 3-3 and the meeting won 54-38 by Mildenhall.

Legault celebrated with an extravagant wheelie and the fans cheered a great victory.

Mildenhall will be racing the away leg of this Premier Trophy clash with Rye House on Saturday (March 31) at 7pm, followed by the home leg on Sunday April 1 with parade at 4:15pm and tapes up at 4:30pm.
