Ely City boss Brady Stone hopes to tempt attacking ace Kelvin Enaro back to the club.

Enaro scored 11 goals and racked up 15 assists when starring for City during the 2016/17 campaign – helping them to the fifth round of the FA Vase.

He spent most of last term at Haverhill but is now set for a Robins return after playing – and scoring – in the opening pre-season friendly.

Enaro grabbed one of the goals in a 6-0 romp at lower-level Chatteris Town last Saturday.

“It would be great to have Kelvin back at Ely,” said boss Stone. “He is a match-winner with the ability to score and create goals.

“He can play in a whole range of attacking positions and is very popular with the fans after doing really well for us the season before last.

“I’m sure a lot of people will be happy if we can sign him again. We have to ensure we bring in the right players to add quality to the squad and Kelvin does that.

“A lot of the current players have already signed for next season and others will do in the next few days so things are looking very positive.”

Reserve players Scott Callaghan, Matt Simpson, Tom Thulborn and Lewis Hook also found the net at Chatteris with an own goal completing City’s haul.

Ely have two more friendlies in the next three days. They go to Linton Granta tonight (Thursday, 7.30pm) and then head to Yaxley on Saturday, 3pm.

City have been handed an away tie in the opening round of the FA Cup.

They travel to Northampton side Sileby Rangers, who play in United Counties League Division One after being relegated last season, in the extra preliminary round on August 11.

The winners will earn £2,250 in prize money and advance to a preliminary round contest at home to either Cogenhoe United or Wisbech Town when the reward for the victorious side is £2,890.

City have not progressed past the opening round in Stone’s four previous seasons as manager.

Ely entertain fellow Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Norwich United in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase on September 1.

They have the prospect of a trip to Newmarket Town or Downham Town in the second qualifying round if successful. The prize money is £550 and £725 respectively for each round.

City have launched a third senior team this season. The ‘A’ team will play in the Cambs League and provide an entry point into the adult game for the club’s strong core of Under 16 and Under 18 players.
