INSPIRATIONAL 10-year-old Ely swimmer Emerson Baillie handed over more than £600 to Aspire after taking part in a 22 mile swim.

Emerson made regular trips to Ely's Paradise Pool with his mum Deborah in November when they covered a combined total of 1,408 lengths, equivalent to an English Channel swim, to raise money for Aspire, a charity that helps people with spinal cord injuries.

Emerson has been swimming from the age of three, is a member of City of Ely Swimming Club, and picked up a bronze medal for 50-metres freestyle at the County Championships in Peterborough last weekend.

Ely Swimming Club coach Elaine Hill said: "Emerson has been with us for just under nine months and he has improved a great deal. He's a lovely lad and an inspiration to both the young swimmers and the parents.
