THE City of Ely Bowls Club is set to play host to the country's leading bowlers this April as they stage their annual Open Championship.

Taking place between Good Friday and Easter Sunday (April 10-11), the competition has attracted a host of bowling's leading lights, many of whom took part in the recent World Championships.

The Ely event will be based on a World Bowls Tour style format and will be played over two sets of seven ends with a tie break if necessary.

The tournament will be played on a straight knock-out basis and, as such, competition will be fierce for the £1000 top prize, with a large number of spectators anticipated over the two days of the event.
