ELY City's run of good form was brought to an end at the weekend as they were subjected to an 8-3 hammering by high-flyers Dereham.
Ely started brightly and opened the scoring within the first two minutes, a well directed short corner flick from Joel Gilmour being finished with ease on the right hand post by Tommy Hugo.
Dereham levelled the scoring shortly afterwards with a strong shot from the top of the Ely circle. Ely again opened a marginal lead following a solo run onto the home keeper by Matt Holden who finished with ease.
However, Dereham soon opened up a safe lead in the game following some flowing moves.
A poorly timed Dereham tackle on Stu Clarke in the heart of the Ely midfield forced him to pay no further part in the game and despite a late goal by Joel Gilmour, Dereham ran out winners.
