A SUPERB performance from the City of Ely Swimming Club saw them take victory at the Rose Seeley Trophy Gala held last weekend.

Ely clinched the title in a thrilling last race which saw a late charge from hosts Newmarket threaten to wrest the glory away at the death. Ely held firm though, and kept Newmarket at bay long enough to secure the race and the gala.

Team Manager Dave Abraham, said: "I'm really proud of the team - they worked wonderfully together, and showed great team spirit and produced some outstanding individual performances."

Hosted by Newmarket Swimming Club, the gala also featured several others teams from Saffron Walden and Halsted. Swimmers from Ely took part in a range of disciplines against their peers from the other clubs and racked up an enormous 23 personal best times on the way to victory.

Coach Elaine Hill said, "This gala focuses on the younger squad members and they have really stepped up to the plate and provided the commitment and dedication needed to win - they have been justly rewarded for all their hard work - they are a credit to the club.
