Karting A packed weekend of racing saw Ely’s Bryony King in action against some of the UK’s top young racers at the Kartmasters Grand Prix.

The three-day event saw King compete in a series of qualifying sessions, two heat races, a pre-final and final.

The first day went well for Bryony 15, from Ely, as she qualified fifth fastest out of 19 competitors in the minimax class and third overall out of 26 in X30 junior.

Saturday saw the slate wiped clean and two more qualifying sessions were held. But the timing wasn’t quite right for minimax and Bryony only managed 16th place.

She fared better in X30 and was fifth fastest in this class.

Bryony started from the back of the grid in Saturday’s minimax heats but some super driving saw her finish sixth in both races – securing her third place on the grid for the final.

She fared even better in the X30 heats as she picked up seventh and a second place finishes but an exclusion on technical grounds meant she would have to start put her Sunday’s final race from the back of the grid.

Some consistent racing in the minimax final saw King grab 11th place overall ahead of her race in the meeting’s final event, the X30.

Having been relegated from pole position to 28th, the odds were stacked against the teenager, but she drove superbly to finish the race in 11th place.
