Paul Evans, one of the fastest British marathon runners in history, put King’s Ely’s most talented young athletes through their paces this week during a series of intensive training sessions.

The two-time 10,000 metre Olympic finalist competed at the highest levels during the 1990s and won the Chicago Marathon in 1996.

Now sports project officer for Active Norfolk, Paul crossed the border into Cambridgeshire to train and inspire young runners in Years 7 to 13.

King’s Ely athletics coach, Tom Kingsnorth, who organised the event, said: “The students enjoyed the afternoon and were inspired by Paul’s tales from running as a schoolboy to competing at Olympic level. It is hoped he will be back for another visit to the school in the summer term.”
