A RESURGENT Ely City team continued their run of fine form with an impressive 2-1 win away at Kings Lynn Reserves.

The inclusion of several of the Linnet's first team in their reserve squad proved no obstacle for the Robins as strikes from Nick Impey and Dave Smith saw them secure their third win in five games.

Boss Denis Lightning, said: "It was a very useful three points picked up against what was a very strong Kings Lynn team.

"We are now in a healthy mid-table position and I am positive that we can keep picking up wins and move ourselves into a top ten place come the end of the season."

Nick Impey opened the scoring for the Robins in the latter stages of the first half when, having become the grateful recipient of a miscued goalkeeping clearance, he slotted home for his second goal in as many games.

After the break, Lightning's side kicked on in search of a second and were finally rewarded, following a host of missed chances, midway through the half when Dave Smith stooped to head home.

Tensions ran high in the wake of Ely' second goal with several tempestuous challenges eventually seeing the home side being reduced to ten men.

Instead of killing the game as a contest though, seeing red galvanised the Linnets and, with ten minutes to go, they pulled a goal back to make for a tense finish.

Resolute defending saw Ely hold out for the three points though, and the win moves them into 12th place in the league, a single point away from a place in the top-half.
