Rowing talent Holly Lancaster is a step closer to being selected for the Great British Rowing Junior Team.
Holly, 16, a student at King’s Ely Senior, was invited to compete in the Great British Rowing Junior Team trials in Boston, Lincolnshire, earlier this month.
Holly was encouraged to enter after she exceeded her 5km GB target and the trials saw the top J16 and J18 rowers from across the country competing over two days.
On the Saturday, Holly, who is from Ely, raced against the top thirty under 16 rowers in the country over a 5km time trial.
Holly exceeded all expectations by coming fifth in the event and on the Sunday, Holly crossed the line in 10th in a scratch double with Mia O’Donnell from Becket Rowing Club.
Overall, Holly was ranked as the fifth fastest single sculler at the event, which she is hoping will be enough for her to be selected for the GB Rowing Junior Under 16 Camp in March.
Head of Rowing at King’s Ely, Mark Beer, said: “To finish fifth in Great Britain in any sporting event is a fantastic achievement. It is a real testament to Holly’s drive, determination and willingness to challenge herself both on and off the water.
