CITY of Ely golfer Lee Yearn claimed his seventh Cambridgeshire County Championship at the weekend, beating Royston GC's Stuart Phillips by one stroke.
After rounds of 70 and 75, Yearn trailed the field by two shots, but he stormed back with rounds of 70 and 69 to deny Phillips the title.
In the final round he shot 33 for the front nine, and then birdied the 13th and 16th holes to establish a two-stroke lead.
A three-putt at the 17th handed the initiative back to Phillips, but the Royston golfer also needed three strokes to get down at that hole and then missed a 10-foot birdie putt at the last to hand Yearn the title.
