Rugby Harwich and Dovercourt 10 Ely Tigers 7

JOHN Dibb’s side failed to carry the momentum of last week’s win over Southwold as they lost at Harwich.

In a turbulent first 15minutes, Harwich broke through the Ely defence and placed down between the posts, giving the kicker an easy conversion.

Ely fought back and started to play with a bit of fluidity. Man of the match Luke Cornwall broke away round the side of a ruck and gave the offload to Tim Evans, who ran a wonderful supporting line and touched down under the posts. Joel Scott Paul converted the two points. Before the end of the half, Ely conceded a penalty in their twenty-two for a high tackle and Harwich kicked three points to go ahead.

The whole of the second half remained scoreless, with both teams making breaks that they were unable to finish. The condition of the pitch played in the hands of opposition as Ely couldn’t stick to their regular game plan of a fast flowing game.
