The B25/33 time trial course starts in Fincham, goes past Stoke Ferry to Mundford and then returns back down the A134 to the finish near Crimplesham.
The 25 mile course is both loved and feared by seasoned competitors.
Loved because of its scenic views, relatively quiet roads and in no small part due to the excellent selection of cakes which the Kings Lynn Cycling Club invariably make available after races on this course.
But it is also feared because its rolling and undulating nature puts an unwelcome strain on legs already tired from trying to get from the start to finish as quickly as possible.
On Saturday six Ely and District Cycling Club members took part in the KLCC event on the B25/33 course.
Conditions were favourable, being relatively warm and with only light winds.
The benign conditions were reflected by some fast times, with Rob Golding being the fastest EDCC rider on the day with a time of 58 minutes 18 seconds which put him in sixth place overall.
Exactly one minute down came Darran Bennett in eighth place, his time of 59:18 being a personal best for the course by over three minutes.
Martin Holmes and John Manlow set very similar times, with Martin beating John by a slender 10 seconds in a time of 1:01:20 despite finishing the race with a puncture.
John’s time was also a course personal best for him. Derek Ricketts finished in a time of 1:03:46 while Alison Holmes stopped the clock in a time of 1:20:31.
On Sunday Geoff Brewster headed down to Frimley Green in Surrey to take part in the GorrickSpring MTB XC Classic race, and was rewarded by a podium position, finishing in 2nd place in the Grand Vets category.
