This weekend members of Ely & District Cycling Club once again took part in a mixture of time trial road races and off-road mountain bike races.

On Saturday, five members of the club took part in the Veterans Time Trial Association event on the E33/25 course near Newmarket.

Rob Golding was again the fastest Ely rider, finishing the 25 mile two lap course in 58 minutes 19 seconds.

Darran Bennett was the second fastest Ely rider with a time of 59 minutes exactly.

Rory Havis finished in a time of 1:01:20, followed by John Manlow in 1:01:35 and Derek Ricketts in 1:02:56.

These results meant that Ely came second in the team competition on scratch and first place on standard.

On Sunday seven riders took part in the third round of the Mud Sweat and Gears cross-country mountain bike race series.

Junior member Charlie Fleet took part in the Under 12s race and finished 30th, while his father Gary Fleet came 48th in the Open Race.

In the Sport race Mat Eley came 8th, despite having to swap wheels due to a puncture and Mikie Burrell was in 20th place.

In the Grand Vets category Phil Peacock was the first Ely rider to finish in 15th place, with Paul Harbinson close behind in 18th and Martin Holland in 24th.

Sunday also saw Martin Holmes take part in the Wolsey RC race on the B25/50 course from Harleston to Bungay and back.

Martin finished the 25 mile course in just under an hour, stopping the clock with a time of 59:17.
