Francesca Rust, Matthew Eley, Robert Golding and Phillip Gosling took the short trip over to the A11 for the API Zak Carr Memorial 25 on Saturday, with torrid weather conditions making for a difficult race.

The club got off to the worst possible start with the weather proving too treacherous for Golding who withdrew and Eley later suffered a puncture.

However, Ely’s fortunes were soon turned after Gosling recorded a club record time of 52 minutes and nine seconds, closely followed by another record-breaker, Francesca Rust, who finished in a new ladies record time of 58 minutes and 47 seconds – beating the old record by almost six minutes.

After securing the club record, Rust said: “It was absolutely tipping it down at the time, with thunder and lightening and while going the same speed as the cars on the A14 at times, so to record a time like that in those conditions is great - more so as top gear wasn’t working.”
