YOU can explore Ely on two wheels this summer as part of Ely Cycling Campaigns programme of family friendly playground bike tours.

The leisurely rides around Ely for parents and children happen every other Sunday stopping at playgrounds and to enjoy a picnic in Ely’s Pocket Park by the River Great Ouse.

There are rides planned for August 12 and 26 and also September 9. There is no need to book, anyone who would like to come along can just turn up on the day with the family and a picnic (children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult).

Andy Shaw, chairman of the Ely Cycling Campaign, said: “The ride starts at 11am at the playground opposite St John’s Primary School and then rides around the outside of Ely on traffic free paths to the playground near Brooke Grove.

“It then passes the Lantern Primary School and the Paradise Centre and heads into the city centre for a coffee break before heading down the Vineyards past Sainsbury’s to the Pocket Park playground in Ely Country Park for a picnic stop.”

The final leg of the ride will take cyclists along the river, through Jubilee Gardens, up Cherry Hill and back to St John’s Primary School.
