Running ELY Runners hosted their annual cross country races for both junior and senior runners around Roswell Pits on Sunday.

A total of nine juniors took part in the1.77 mile race which circumnavigated the pits and Ely Common. Michael Ford won the junior race in 13mins 12secs and Niamh Webb was the first junior female with a time of 15mins 45secs.

The senior race started and finished on Ely Common at the top of Waterboard Hill. Some 25 members completed the senior race. The route was 5.24miles and consisted of four laps of muddy and hilly terrain, including several log jumps which contributed to some spectacular tumbles en-route.

Martin Ineson put in a fantastic performance, winning the race in a time of 36mins 15secs. He was closely followed by Ian Day who won the men’s age graded trophy with a time of 36mins 25secs. Sarah Edwards was first senior female with a time of 46mins 8secs who also won the women’s age graded trophy.
