Ely City Hockey Club’s bid for a new pitch was handed a big boost last weekend thanks to the club’s annual President’s Day.

The day of hockey saw the club’s young sides in action in QuikSticks matches, followed by seven-a-side matches involving players in years six to 11.

The adults then took to the pitch and the Ely Old Boys firsts took on the Ely Superstars, the Ely Old Girls played the Ely Wonder Women XI and the Ely Old Boys 2nds went head-to-head with Ely Conquerors XI.

The day raised an impressive £485 and the club also received a donation of £1,000 from one of its players.

Julia Gilbert, of Ely City Hockey Club, said: “With the bar open, food served in the clubhouse and cakes on sale, it was great to see so many members – current, old and young – catching up and raising money for the replacement astroturf pitch in the process.”
