THE chairman of Ely City Football Club was crowned East Cambridgeshire’s unsung hero at the 2012 Ely Standard Sports Awards.
Bob Button is chairman of Ely City FC and has worked tirelessly over the years to help keep the club alive and well in very difficult circumstances.
The judges said: “Bob’s hard work behind the scenes organising fundraising, sponsorship and match days has kept Ely ticking over and has allowed Ely’s superb management team of Alan Alsop and Dean Greygoose to guide Ely to a fantastic season.”
Mr Button was unable to attend the event. His trophy was collected by Ely City FC’s Len Cutchey.
FINALISTS:
Heidi Uff - Ely Runners’ Ladies Captain, Heidi has been instrumental in turning the Cambridge Park run into the successful event it is today.
Dean Greygoose - Ely City FC assistant manager Dean Greygoose has been ever-present at the side of manager Alan Alsop this season, helping guide the team through an outstanding season that has seen them clinch the Cambs Invitation Cup and the runner’s-up spot in the Ridgeons Premier Division.
