ELY 1 completed 2009 with a hard fought win over local rivals March in Division 2N.
Ely started the better side but again failed to capitalise from possession while March, with two lone forays into the Ely circle, took a two goal lead into the half time break. However, as the second half started to unfold, the passing of Joel Gilmour and Tom Rutledge created chances for Ely to regain control of the game. A fine finish from a short corner by Rutledge and conversion of a penalty stroke by Ely skipper Chris Purllant levelled the game for Ely. Shortly after, Matt Holden fired a quick shot from a tight angle to give Ely the lead and despite yellow card suspensions for Julian Palmer, Ely held firm.
